Serdang, 28 December  – The Menggamit Seribu Kenangan Alumni Reunion (MEKAR) Series 27: UPM Alumni Invitational Football Championship was successfully held at the Sports Academy Stadium, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), bringing together alumni in a spirited atmosphere of sportsmanship and nostalgia.

The championship was organised by the Credit-Bearing Co-Curricular Course QKS 2101 (Football), Group 2, under the Centre for Co-Curricular and Student Development (PKPPUPM) in collaboration with the UPM Alumni Relations Centre (ARCUPM), with the objective of strengthening ties between alumni and the university through sports.

A total of four UPM alumni teams, comprising alumni from the Class of 2000 to 2006, competed in the tournament. In addition to the matches, the programme also honoured four former legendary UPM football coaches  Mr Zainal Abidin bin Yusuf, Mr Shaharuddin bin Ibrahim, Mr Masran bin Mat Aris, and Mr Ismail bin Ibrahim  in recognition of their significant contributions to the development of university football.

Throughout the programme, ARCUPM operated an alumni data update counter, encouraging attending alumni to review and update their information as part of the UPM alumni community.

In conclusion, MEKAR 27 was not merely a football championship, but a meaningful platform that rekindled memories, strengthened camaraderie and reinforced the enduring bond between alumni and Universiti Putra Malaysia. The programme demonstrated the power of sports in uniting alumni and the university within a strong and lasting network.
