SERDANG, 3rd June – The 35th Program Menggamit Kenangan Alumni Reunion (MEKAR), held in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the UPM Class of 1976, was successfully organised at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), bringing together approximately 80 alumni in a memorable gathering filled with nostalgia and appreciation for their alma mater.

Organised by the UPM Alumni Relations Centre (ARCUPM), the programme was held as part of UPM Synergy Month 2026 and aimed to strengthen the relationship between the University and its alumni community, in line with the aspiration of "Knowledgeable and Contributive UPM Alumni."

Throughout the programme, the alumni participated in a nostalgic tour of several iconic locations across the UPM campus that had once been an integral part of their student life. The tour began at Menara Putra Warisan Budi and continued to KMR OnePutra Residence, Ladang 10 UPM, and Hospital Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah (HSAAS). At each venue, the alumni were briefed on the University's latest developments while reflecting on cherished memories from their years at UPM.

The visit also highlighted UPM's remarkable transformation into a world-renowned research university, providing alumni with the opportunity to witness the University's achievements in education, research, innovation, and healthcare services since their graduation nearly five decades ago.

The celebration continued on 4 June 2026 with the MEKAR – Golden Jubilee Celebration of the UPM Class of 1976 at Bangi Resort Hotel. The gathering celebrated the 50-year journey of the Class of 1976, recognising their significant contributions and accomplishments across various professional fields at both the national and international levels. The relaxed and friendly atmosphere provided an opportunity for alumni to reconnect, share life experiences, and reminisce about their university days.

The event was graced by the presence of YBhg. Dato' Professor Ir. Dr. Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah, FASc, Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia; Dr. Muhammad Mu'az Mahmud, Deputy Director of the UPM Alumni Relations Centre; Mr. Mohd Norashedy Ab Rashid, President of the UPM Alumni Association; and Mr. Anas Ahmad Nasarudin, Chairman of the RU50TDK Alumni 1976 Organising Committee.

A highlight of the celebration was the presentation of the Golden Jubilee Rolling Plaque, symbolising the continuation of the Golden Jubilee tradition among UPM alumni. The plaque was officially handed over by Mr. Anas Ahmad Nasarudin to YBhg. Dato' Abdullah Sani Shaffie, representing the UPM Class of 1977, in the presence of YBhg. Dato' Soh Poh Sheng and Mr. Aiman Fikri Mohd Aris Fadzilah from the UPM Alumni Relations Centre.
