The name of this award is Pingat Razlan Putra, after its benefactor YAM Dato’ Seri DiRaja Syed Razlan Ibni Syed Putra Jamalullail. According to YAM Dato’ Seri DiRaja Syed Razlan Ibni Syed Putra Jamalullail, the establishment of this gold medal was inspired by his own active involvement in sports and his awareness that athletes are often not given due recognition for their sacrifices. Therefore, the medal was introduced as a form of appreciation for athletes.This award is dedicated to student-athletes who excel not only in sports but also achieve academic distinction after a holistic evaluation. It reflects that UPM athletes also have the opportunity to receive an award on the first day of Konvokesyen, although only one recipient will be selected.
