Pingat Emas Alumni

Before the establishment of the Pingat Emas Alumni, the Perisai Pusingan was awarded to the best graduate of the Diploma in Agriculture programme. The Perisai Pusingan was presented by the Persatuan Alumni to the Kolej Pertanian. This award was given from its inception until it was discontinued at the Majlis Konvokesyen Sesi 1976/1977. In 1978, the Persatuan Alumni Universiti Pertanian Malaysia generously contributed a new Perisai Pusingan to be awarded to the best academic graduate at the degree level. Beginning in 1979, during the Majlis Konvokesyen Sesi 1978/1979, the Perisai Pusingan was replaced with a gold medal award known as the Pingat Emas Alumni UPM.

The gold medal is awarded to the best Bachelor’s degree graduate in terms of academic excellence, in the form of a gold medal, certificate, and cash prize of RM1,000. Beginning with the 2007/2008 session, the cash prize was increased to RM2,000. In the 2023 session, the amount was further increased to RM4,000. Nomination is limited to one candidate from each academic programme, nominated by the faculty. Faculties are required to provide full details of the nominee’s academic results, extracurricular activities, special qualities, or abilities.
