Serdang, 8 August - Heartfelt appreciation goes to Haji Jefri bin Haji Mohamed Zain, UPM Alumni Class of 1995 & 1998 (Bachelor of Resource Economics, Master of Corporate Communication), for his soulful recital of the poem “Akad Percintaan” by Jasni Matlani. Every verse he delivered resonated deeply, carrying with it a sense of emotion and lived experience that touched the hearts of the audience. The performance became even more memorable with the exquisite guitar accompaniment by Dr. Sopian Brahim, UPM Alumni Class of 1997 (Bachelor of Human Development Science), whose melodies intertwined beautifully with each spoken word. Together, their collaboration created a moving artistic experience that will be remembered for a long time.
The fusion of poetic expression with the soul of music created a reflective space for the audience — more than mere entertainment, it was a moment of contemplation and appreciation of the values of art and culture. Once again, Alumni Poetry Night demonstrated that the university is not only a cradle of academic excellence, but also a home to individuals whose talents continue to enrich the artistic and cultural landscape.

The Alumni Poetry Night was further enriched by the passionate performances of two talented young alumni — Mr. Mohd Azim Khairul Amir (UPM Alumni Class of 2020) and Mr. Suhairey Shah Mashara (UPM Alumni Class of 2024). Not only are they dedicated UPM staff, but they also emerged as champions of the UPM Inter-Department Merdeka Poetry Competition in conjunction with the Semarak Merdeka UPM 2024 program. With synergy and spirit, they delivered “Memugar Ladang Bangsa” by Ab Rani Embi, channeling poetic emotions infused with patriotic fervor. Every verse they recited seemed to breathe the spirit of struggle and awaken a deeper sense of love for the homeland among the audience.

The entire evening’s performances left a profound impact, not only in the beauty of words and music but also in the spirit of togetherness and pride as UPM alumni. It was living proof that art is a universal language — one that unites, evokes memories, and stirs the soul.
