KOTA SAMARAHAN, 25th July – The Alumni Division under the Student Affairs Office of Universiti Putra Malaysia Sarawak (UPMS) successfully organised the Chit Chat Alumni Programme at Dewan Sri Kenyalang, Universiti Putra Malaysia Sarawak (UPMS).

Held for the first time, the programme served as an informal knowledge-sharing platform that brought together UPM alumni and newly enrolled students to exchange experiences, insights and perspectives on the role of alumni in supporting student development and the University's continued growth.

The programme was attended by faculty members, senior university officials and students, reflecting strong institutional support for alumni engagement initiatives. Among those in attendance were Associate Professor Dr. Norasmah Saupi, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Forestry, UPMS; Mr. Mohamad Syukri Mohamad Adnan, Chief Administrator of the Student Affairs Office, UPMS; Associate Professor Dr. Geoffery Anak James Gerusu, Chairman of the UPMS Alumni Fellows; Mr. Muhamad Abdul Rahim Habib, Head of the Counselling and Student Empowerment Division; and Ms. Nurul Atiqah MS Ismail, Vice President of the College Representative Council.

The Chit Chat Alumni session was moderated by Dr. Alvin Lim Teik Zheng, Senior Lecturer and UPM alumnus. The panel featured Mr. Fahmi Azar Mistar, Director of the UPM Alumni Relations Centre, Serdang; Tuan Haji Mat Amin Jaafar, Managing Director of AMCO Niaga Sdn. Bhd. and Secretary-General of the UPM Alumni Association; and Dr. Ahmad Mustapha Mohamad Pazi, Lecturer at the Department of Forestry Science, UPMS.

During the session, the panellists shared their personal and professional experiences, highlighting the importance of lifelong engagement with the University and the value of building strong alumni networks. They also encouraged students to actively participate in alumni-related activities and to view the alumni community as a platform for mentorship, career development and professional networking.

The programme provided valuable exposure for new students to better understand the roles and functions of the UPM alumni community while fostering stronger connections between students, alumni and the University. It is hoped that initiatives such as the Chit Chat Alumni Programme will continue to cultivate a strong sense of belonging and inspire students to remain actively engaged with UPM throughout their academic journey and beyond as future alumni.
