SERDANG – Alumni from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) should be applauded for their courage in carrying on the tradition of supporting their alma mater. The tradition of contributing to alma mater should not only be practiced by UPM, it should be followed by all public and private universities in Malaysia in order to continue providing students with an education of an exceptionally high caliber and to develop human capital.

The UPM Alumni Relations Center organized the “Tautan Kasih” Program, which was successfully hosted on June 26, 2023, at the Serdang, UPM, Briefing Foyer. The Vice Chancellor of UPM, YBhg. Dato' Prof. Dr. Roslan Sulaiman, awarded 62 asnaf and B40 students with financial donations totaling RM 100.00 (one off) from UPM alumni, Ybrs. Dr. Hamisah Hassan and Che Wan Mohd Zuhaimi Che Wan Hussain. This donation is being made in an effort to help the alma mater for students in need, especially those who live in residential colleges near the Serdang campus.

The UPM Alumni Relations Center also provides computers to asnaf students in addition to cash donations, which are also gifts from UPM alumni. More than 20 eligible students have benefited so far from this donation.

According to YBhg Prof. Associate Dr. Arba'ie Sujud, Director of the UPM Alumni Relations Center (ARCUPM), any type of donation offered by alumni will be handled and handed over to students in need immediately.

“The trust given by alumni should be immediately acted upon. Every kind of donation given must be notified and provided to students as soon as possible because they want to know where their contributions are being funneled. This is the trust that the alumni have given and once this trust exists, the relationship built on this basis will continue to be a magnet to draw additional alumni to return and contribute to the University and students." he said.

This endeavor is also in line with the 7th initiative of the UPM Vice-Chancellor's Narrative 2023, "Unifying the Strength of Alumni." The involvement of alumni is crucial in bringing the University to excellence and even achieving Universiti Putra Malaysia's vision of becoming a University of international recognition. The alumni's awareness of the needs of the students who will be the next generation to carry on the University's vision and mission will make the work towards the University's excellence easier and it is not the work of a single person, but the work of a team composed of all UPM citizens, including alumni.
