Serdang, 10 December – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) officially launched the UPM Digital Month 2025, a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI) adoption in higher education, in line with UPM’s role as a leading digital innovation university in Malaysia.

The launch ceremony featured keynote addresses by several distinguished figures, including the Deputy Secretary-General (Management and Development), Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), YBhg. Datuk Ts. Dr. Mohd Nor Azman Hassan, who delivered a keynote titled “Empowering Futures: Digital Transformation”. In his address, he emphasised the importance of digital readiness and institutional adaptability in navigating the rapidly evolving technological landscape.

The Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia, YBhg. Dato’ Professor Ir. Dr. Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah, also delivered a keynote address titled “Digital Renaissance: Charting AI-Ready Higher Education”. He highlighted that UPM Digital Month serves as a vital platform to educate the campus community on the responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence and information technology, while addressing both the challenges and opportunities presented by digital transformation in higher education.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the launch of UPM Digital Month 2025 reflects the university’s continued commitment to enhancing digital literacy, cybersecurity awareness and data-driven technologies among its community, reinforcing UPM’s preparedness for the AI era.

Meanwhile, the Chief Digital Officer (CDO) of iDEC UPM, Professor Ts. Dr. Nurfadhlina Mohd Sharef, shared that various improvements have been implemented in line with the UPM Digital Transformation Framework. These include enhanced cybersecurity measures, the provision of high-quality data, and the development of a university-wide notification system to support a more robust and integrated digital ecosystem.

The event was also attended by the Director of the UPM Alumni Relations Centre, Mr Fahmi Azar Mistar, and the Deputy President of the UPM Alumni Association and UPM Alumnus Class of 1992, Mr Shahrudin Mahadi.

In conjunction with the event, the Alumni Madani Laptop Contribution Ceremony was held to support selected students as part of alumni-driven welfare initiatives. The recipients included Mr Ikhwan, represented by Mr Wan Mohd Radzi (WAZAN UPM), and Ms Sin Yee, represented by Ms Marlinah Muslim from the UPM Unit for Disability Support Services.

Overall, the UPM Digital Month 2025 underscores the university’s strong commitment to fostering a sustainable digital culture and preparing its community for the era of artificial intelligence. UPM remains steadfast in positioning digitalisation as a key driver of innovation, academic excellence and future talent development.
