MINDFUL STEPS BY THE VETS

Serdang, 1 February 2026 – The Malaysian Veterinary Medical Association (MAVMA), in collaboration with the Alumni Relations Centre of Universiti Putra Malaysia (ARCUPM), successfully organised the Mindful Steps By The Vets programme, an initiative aimed at raising awareness on the importance of mental health among veterinary practitioners and veterinary medical students.

The programme, which commenced as early as 7:30 a.m., began with participant registration and a safety briefing at Dataran Menara Budi, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), before continuing with a leisure walk around Ladang 5, UPM. The activity not only promoted a healthy lifestyle but also served as a platform to support mental well-being through social interaction and engagement with the natural environment.

The event was further graced by the presence and officiation of the Director General of Veterinary Services  YBhg. Datuk Dr. Mohd Noor Hisham bin Mohd Haron , who is also an alumnus of UPM. His attendance reflected strong leadership support for initiatives aimed at safeguarding the mental well-being of veterinary professionals in Malaysia.

The programme continued with a photography session, followed by a Peer Sharing Well-being Circle held at the Foyer of the Serdang Briefing Hall, UPM Chancellery Building. This sharing session featured MAVMA panel members, namely Dr. Chee Liung Wun, President of MAVMA, and Dr. Dennis Lim Chang Wei, who shared their insights and experiences on mental health challenges within the veterinary profession.

The programme concluded with light refreshments and a closing session, further strengthening professional networks and fostering a spirit of togetherness among participants. The organisation of this programme was also supported by sponsorship from Pets Universe Sdn. Bhd.

Overall, Mindful Steps By The Vets served as a meaningful platform in enhancing mental health awareness and underscored the continued commitment of MAVMA and ARCUPM in supporting the holistic well-being of the veterinary community in Malaysia. ARCUPM extends its highest appreciation to all parties involved in the successful implementation of this programme.
