SERDANG, 20 JUNE — Program MEKAR Series 32: Serdang Angels Hamdan Cup 2.0 concluded on a high note, showcasing the enduring spirit of friendship and strong sense of belonging among Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) alumni.

Held at Padang A, UPM, the event successfully brought together approximately 100 alumni from various generations, who participated either as players or supporters of their respective teams. Centered around the sport of touch rugby, the tournament served not only as a platform to promote a healthy and active lifestyle but also as a meaningful avenue for alumni to reconnect through sportsmanship, teamwork, and friendships forged during their university years.

This year’s tournament was made even more significant as it was held in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary Celebration of Kolej Tun Dr. Ismail (Legasi 50), UPM Alumni Day, and as part of the Bulan Sinergi Putra 2026 celebrations throughout June. Beyond competition, the event provided alumni with an opportunity to reunite and reminisce about their campus experiences, which played an important role in shaping their personal and professional journeys.

A total of eight teams competed in two categories: the Premier Category and the Legend Category. In the Premier Category, Warrior RC emerged as champions after delivering an outstanding performance throughout the tournament. Ex Vampiria finished as runners-up, while Hamster and UNO B secured third and fourth places respectively.

In the Legend Category, 7G.I claimed the championship title, followed by UNO A as runners-up. Angelito and Old Angel completed the top four standings in the category.

According to the programme manager Mr. Abdul Mu’iz Hassan Basri, the tournament demonstrated that alumni relationships do not end after graduation but continue to flourish through programmes that benefit both the alumni community and the university. Events such as this play an important role in fostering a sense of unity, strengthening alumni identity, and encouraging continued contributions towards the development and excellence of Universiti Putra Malaysia.

Throughout the tournament, the values of sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy competition were evident in every touch rugby match. The enthusiastic support from fellow alumni, friends, and family members further enlivened the atmosphere, making the tournament more than just a sporting event. It became a meaningful platform for reconnecting alumni, strengthening bonds, and expanding professional and social networks within the UPM community.
