SERDANG, 21 September – The Menggamit Seribu Kenangan Alumni Reunion (MEKAR) Program Series 14 is held at Co-Curriculum and Student Development Centre (PKPP) PutraCocu Hall. This series is done with the collaboration with eDU-PARK and has involved 38 alumni from Science Diploma with Education Class 1973/1974.
The program starts at 9AM with the opening ceremony which has been launched by the Deputy Director of Alumni Relations Centre (ARCUPM), Mr. Fahmi Azar Mistar as well as speeches from the founder of this chapter, YM Raja Ahmad Shah and the program chairperson, Mrs. Noorizan Mohammed. The certificate of the chapter establishment is also handed to the founder and exchanged with a donation from the alumni to ARCUPM with the sum of RM1600 through 1 Alumni 1 Sumbangan Ringgit donation.
The program is continued with a short briefing from a committee member of MEKAR Program regarding the visit to campus before the alumni then move to Ladang 10. Here, alumni get to see how UPM has developed from the agriculture college they used to know during their time at UPM decades ago. The group then moves to Putra Mart where alumni get to see and buy the high quality products produced by UPM before going to Warisan Melayu Museum at Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication (FALCOMM). The visit to campus ends with a nostalgia tour to places in UPM that bring back their memories like Sultan Abdul Samad Library and Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Arts & Cultural Centre Big Hall.
YM Raja Ahmad Shah has expressed his gratitude to ARCUPM for helping alumni Class 1973/1974 in making the program a success in an interview with ARCUPM. He said, “Hopefully more alumni will join this program and contribute back to UPM.”
MEKAR program is a reunion program for UPM alumni organized by ARCUPM. The first series that was held in December 2021 is still being continued until now with different alumni groups that differ in backgrounds and careers. This program is hoped to become a bridge that connects alumni with UPM to make the connection stronger even after they stepped out to the world outside UPM.
There is also a sale of items such as hats, mugs, notebooks, and water bottles from ARCUPM and UPM Cooperation which are sold well among the alumni for them to take home as souvenirs. The program ends around 3pm.
