Knowledge Sharing with Alumni at Planting Site

SERDANG – Alumni Relations Centre UPM (ARCUPM) has conducted a workshop and pre-launching ceremony for AIMAC: Megachili Project in hybrid at Rashdan Baba Auditorium and at the chilli fertigation site at Sultan Alaeddin Suleiman Shah College (KOSASS). The event took place at 10 am which started with a workshop and ended at the planting project site for the pre-launching ceremony and practical training.

Every project conducted will be involving alumni. Assistant Agricultural Officer from University Agricultural Park (TPU), Saiyyidina Hamzah Muhammad @ Mamat, alumni class of 2017 was invited as a panel for knowledge sharing with Megachili Project 2021 participants.

This is the first time a workshop and practical training have been conducted physically after the imposed National Recovery Plan (PPN) Phase 4. However, participants who are on the Bintulu campus (UPMKB), are accessible through Google Meet.

In the workshop, numerous tips and inputs were shared with the participants. According to Saiyyidina, the cultivation of chillies is difficult and requires a high level of commitment. In addition, if chilli planting is carried out during the rainy season and succeed, the price can be high.

During the workshop, he advised the participants to give full attention because through this project participants may gain experiences that can be utilised upon graduating and pursuing a career. The workshop also focused on preparing the chilli planting so that participants will have a better understanding of the fertigation techniques.

AIMAC: Megachili Project 2021 was officiated by the Director of ARCUPM, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arba’ie Sujud.

Among the guests attending were residential college Principals from Sultan Alaeddin Suleiman Shah (KOSASS), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Mursyid Arshad, Pendeta Za’ba, Dr. Mohd Hafiz Mohd Zaid, Tenth College, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Nuraini Abdul Aziz, Thirteenth College, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ir. Dr. Ahmad Shukri Muhammad Noor, and Sri Rajang College Senior Assistant Registrar, Rosidah Basir.

Meanwhile, according to ARCUPM Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arba’ie Sujud thanked alumni who were, directly and indirectly, involved in the success of this high impact project. 

“This is our first step and this is a pilot project which the results are still not visible. But I believe with the commitment and support from the university management especially from UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Mohd Roslan Sulaiman, I am confident this project will be successful.
