BINTULU, Nov 2 - In conjunction with the 46th Universiti Putra Malaysia Convocation First Session at Bintulu campus, Majlis Mesra Alumni UPM Chapter Borneo was held. The ceremony gathered alumni from the Borneo region namely, UPMKB alumni, Alumni Chapter Sarawak, Alumni Chapter Semenggok, Persatuan Alumni UPM Sabah, and Alumni Chapter Sabah. It was the first time such reunion was being held and managed to form a sense of togetherness in contributing back to alma mater, especially for the students at UPM Bintulu campus. This reunion also led to the meeting with the legendary Borneo UPM alumni, UPM Alumni Chapter Semenggok (UPMCS).

According to the UPM Bintulu Campus Alumni Chapter Coordinator, Azuan Omar, this reunion is a stepping stone for future collaboration and networking. This is a kickstart for the Borneo Alumni Chapter to contribute back to the university.

“This reunion is the best platform for us, UPMKB alumni, Sabah and Sarawak to reconnect with the university. I categorised this because some of the UPMKB alumni are from the peninsular and some alumni in the Serdang campus are from Sabah and Sarawak. We consist of five different groups according to the locality of origin and place of graduation. Various alumni group representatives united in this reunion, and we have one thing in common which is Borneo Malaysia,” he said.

These alumni hope that this is the starting point for the alumni from Borneo to plan and conduct activities to heighten the role of alumni in supporting the university’s vision and mission.

During the ceremony, Sabah and Sarawak alumni handed over the contribution presented by Prof. Dr. Arifin Abdu, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) to the UPMKB Head of Student Affairs Division, Dr. Kamil Latif for the students at UPMKB in need. A contribution from Alumni MMPUPM to the MPPUPM Bintulu campus for programmes empowerment.

History has been made with its first Convocation ceremony held at UPM Bintulu campus with the presence of Tuanku Chancellor, DYMM Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah gave a reflection of solidarity between Borneo and the Peninsular.
