SERDANG – Ummu Qatrunnada Liyana Kamaruddin, a Bachelor of Agricultural Science graduate and also one of Alumni Class 2023, has been awarded as the first recipient of Farm Fresh Food Security Award during UPM 47th Convocation Ceremony. This award, which is introduced for the first time, is also one of the university's main awards and prizes managed by the Alumni Relations Center UPM (ARCUPM).

This award that is introduced for the first time is hoped to motivate the young generation to keep researching and exploring the food security sector in Malaysia and hopefully will be able to make a meaningful contribution to our country and its people.

This is fitting with the objective of the award's main sponsor which is Farm Fresh Sdn. Bhd. who wants the young generation to be involved in the field of food security, especially those related to milk production.

“We are hoping with this award, it will be a motivation to the young generation to be involved more seriously in the field of food security, especially products or fields related to milk. It can be said that the young generation did not show that much interest in this field therefore us, as the main ‘player’ in fields related to milk in this industry would like to invite more youths especially fresh graduates to explore this field in a more serious manner. As the representative of Fresh Farm, I would like to congratulate Ummu for receiving this award,” Mr. Joseph Nathan, the sponsor representative said.

Ummu herself does not expect to receive one of the university’s main awards and she feels like her sacrifice to put her studies on hold for two years to take care of her late mother, is worth it.

“This is definitely a gift that means a lot to me. After going through many challenges, I finally graduated today and to make today even more special, I also received one of the university’s main awards which is the Farm Fresh Food Security Award. As the first graduate to receive this award, it is putting a big responsibility on me and I support the university and the sponsor’s effort in taking the issue related to food security specifically in Malaysia. I also want to call for all the youths and graduates in this field to carry this responsibility with our knowledge to keep supporting and giving our best for our country and people,” Ummu said in the interview right after the first session of the convocation ceremony.

ARCUPM is wishing all the best to Ummu and all the fresh graduates in whatever field they will be in and welcome back to contribute to the alma mater as UPM alumni with the unfaded spirit of “With Knowledge We Serve”.
